May 2015 e-notes

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
Saturday, May 9, 2015 • 7:30 p.m.

Spring tradition! We enthusiastically welcome back the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, who for the eighth consecutive spring will close our season. As one of the nation’s leading orchestras and a Wisconsin cultural treasure, the MSO, under the leadership of Music Director Edo de Waart, is a Brown County Civic Music Association audience favorite.

This year MSO will entertain and enthrall us with works by Liszt, Mozart and Brahms under the direction of associate conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong and featuring Matthew Annin, horn.

Maestro de Waart has led sold-out concerts, elicited critical acclaim, and conducted a celebrated performance at Carnegie Hall. The MSO’s full-time professional musicians perform over 135 concerts each season. The MSO has found innovative ways to give music a home in the region, develop music appreciation and talent among area youth, and raise the national reputation of Milwaukee.

The MSO’s standard of excellence extends beyond the concert hall and into the community, reaching more than 40,000 children and their families, and the nationally recognized ACE program integrates arts education into state-required curricula. This season, more than 7,600 students and 500 teachers and faculty in 25 Southeastern Wisconsin schools will participate in Arts in Community Education (ACE).

A magnificent finale! For the eighth consecutive spring, we close our season with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, one of the nation’s leading orchestras and a Wisconsin cultural treasure. The MSO is earning bravos this year for the exceptional quality of its Ravel, Handel, Beethoven and pops concerts. When the disappearance and subsequent recovery of the concertmaster’s missing 300-year-old Stradivarius violin made worldwide headlines last winter, the instrument’s return was literally music to the ears of MSO fans. Maestro Edo de Waart and his 80 full-time professional musicians make world-class music.
